JBMR Rising Stars Award Special Issue

The Journal of Biomedical Materials Research is pleased to announce the inaugural Rising Stars Award Special Issue, highlighting the exceptional research and innovation of emerging leaders in the biomaterials field.
This special issue will feature 10-15 original research articles by outstanding early-career faculty whose work advances the science and applications of biomaterials. Selected authors will also be invited to present their research as part of a special symposium at the 2027 Society for Biomaterials (SFB) Annual Meeting.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be a current Society For Biomaterials (SFB) member
- Hold a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level or equivalent
- Be the corresponding author of the proposed manuscript
- Submit an original research manuscript suitable for publication in the special issue
Self-Nomination Materials
Interested applicants should submit:
- Proposed manuscript title
- Abstract (500 words maximum) describing the planned manuscript
- NIH SciENcv (or equivalent CV in SciENcv format)
Important Dates
- Self-Nomination Deadline: September 1, 2026
- Notification of Selected Authors: October 15, 2026
- Abstract submission to SFB: Fall 2026
- Full Manuscript Submission Deadline: March 2027
- Rising Stars Symposium: SFB Annual Meeting, April 27-May 1, 2027 (Seattle, WA)
Selection Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on:
- Scientific innovation and significance
- Potential impact on the biomaterials field
- Applicant's accomplishments and trajectory as an emerging leader
We encourage eligible early-career investigators from across the biomaterials community to apply and showcase their cutting-edge research.
