Dental/Craniofacial Biomaterials SIG Webinar

The Dental/Craniofacial Biomaterials Special Interest Group (SIG) met on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 to feature talks from Dr. James Melville and Dr. Simon Young, both faculty surgeons in the Katz Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Young described the clinical challenges faced by surgeons who seek to reconstruct complex maxillofacial defects and several emerging preclinical tissue engineering technologies along the translational spectrum. Dr. Melville then discussed recent developments in the use of in situ bone tissue engineering, and how it has enabled comprehensive rehabilitation of patients with large mandibular bone defects.
