2023 SFB National Student Chapter
Bylaws Chair Candidate
Amberlyn Simmons
Arizona State University
My name is Amberlyn Simmons and I am a PhD student at Arizona State University (ASU). I’m interested in running for the Bylaws Chair position for the SFB National Student Section.
I am the current Secretary for the SFB chapter at ASU (2021-2022). I have experience in planning our chapter's events as well as our chapter's Biomaterials Day Conference that we host in the Fall. I will be running for President at the end of this month. During my time as an undergraduate at the University of Florida, I served in many leadership positions with an engineering sorority, Phi Sigma Rho. While I was president (2020-2021) of the chapter I was responsible for overseeing all of our officer’s responsibilities and events. I was also in charge of voting during elections and overseeing any changes to the bylaws. Additionally, I served as Vice President of Social Activities (2019-2020), where I organized many large events including the end of the year banquet, Family & Alumni day, and Sisterhood retreat for over 60 members.
My vision for the National Student Chapter involves collaboration and growth. Increased collaboration between chapters will help us form new relations with scientists in our field, while also fostering diversity and inclusion. I also believe that growth in the form of increased membership and establishment of new chapters will help us to encourage participation at our events. Together, these objectives will promote the dissemination of the SFB mission.
